There is no reason you can not enjoy a burger for your aesthetic and health goals. Simply, if you have a gluten sensitivity then use gluten free bread. But, if you have a dairy sensitivity then this goat cheeseburger is for you!
Ingredients for our Macro-Friendly Caramelized Onion Goat Cheeseburger: Recipe makes for 1 person
-For Men: 8 oz 90% grassfed ground beef
-For Women: 6 oz 90% grassfed ground beef
-Sea salt
-1 burger bun
-1 tablespoon of fig jam
-1 ounce of goat cheese
-1 handful of arugula
Caramelized Onions:
-1 yellow onion, sliced
-1 tablespoon oil
-1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
-Sea salt
-1/4 cup of water
For the Caramelized Onions
Instructions:
Preheat Skillet: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat until it’s hot.
Add Oil: Once the skillet is preheated, add the oil.
Add Onions: Add the thinly sliced onions to the skillet, stirring to coat them evenly with the oil.
Initial Cooking: Reduce the heat to medium-low and cover the skillet with a lid. Cook for 10 minutes to allow the onions to wilt and soften.
Season and Continue Cooking: Remove the lid and stir in the balsamic vinegar and salt. Cook the onions for an additional 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes. If the onions start to dry out or stick to the pan, add a little water (a tablespoon at a time) to keep them moist.
Finish Caramelizing: In the last 5 minutes of cooking, add a bit more water (about 2 tablespoons) and increase the heat to medium-high. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are deeply caramelized and have a rich, dark color.
Serve: Once the onions are well-browned and have a sweet, complex flavor, remove them from the heat. Set aside in a ramekin.
For the Burger:
Instructions:
Preheat Skillet: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
Shape Patties: Form ground beef into a patty, pressing a dimple in the center.
Season Patties: Season both sides with salt.
Cook Patties: Turn heat down to medium heat once skillet is fully pre-heated, then place patties in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium. Adjust time for desired doneness.
Once you flip the burger patty, add the top with crumbled goat cheese and onions.
Toast your burger buns by splitting them open and lay them face side down into the same skillet as the burgers. Toast for 1-2 minutes.
Rest Patties: Let patties rest for a few minutes before serving.
Tips:
Don’t Press: Avoid pressing the patties to keep them juicy.
Use Thermometer: For accuracy, use a meat thermometer:
Rare: 120°F
Medium-Rare: 130°F
Medium: 140°F
Medium-Well: 150°F
Well-Done: 160°F
